How To Save Energy At Home
Lower The Thermostat. In a recent azcentral article in August 2018, Arizona ranks 13th highest in average monthly electricity bill. Especially in the summer months, it’s easy to see why: the demands of air conditioning tend to be higher are costlier. When looking into how to go green in your home, you can try to cut costs and save energy at the same time by turning on the fan which can make the air feel 5 degrees Fahrenheit cooler. This will allow you to turn down the thermostat during the summer months and save energy overall.
Get A Smart Thermostat. A second step in saving energy at home is to invest in smart thermostat and model the home’s performance to meet your AC needs, working when you need it to and saving energy when you don’t.
Keep Blinds Open For Sunlight. Instead of leaving the lights on during the day, try substituting sunlight for home lights. This is one key way to go green in your home. Additionally, switching to LEDs or energy-efficient light bulbs can save you money in the long-run. Compared against incandescent light bulbs, LEDs can aid in your water conservation efforts.
Use Dishwashers And Washer & Dryers. There has been some debate over whether you can save more water/energy by hand-washing or using machinery. Either save electricity or save water. Or at least there was some debate back when the technology was emerging. Nowadays, the energy-efficient technology that goes into developing your appliances provides so many key benefits in your water conservation efforts. Investing in newer technology also provide the benefit of saving energy at home.
How To Save Water At Home
Receive Plumbing Maintenance. While it might not be a hot priority you consider when looking into how to save water at home; however, this can help you go green in your home by detecting and resolving hidden issues. Whether the issue is leaky pipes or faucets, resolving the issue can save you water and money in the long run.
Install A Low-Flow Showerhead. These can run for moderately cheap prices online. They operate by restricting water flow, building pressure on the water. This provides you with a similar, if not more luxurious aerated shower experience while cutting excessive water use.
Invest In Faucet Aerators. Similar to showerheads, faucet aerators operate by restricting water flow and aerating pressure to faucets to give you the typical sink ‘experience’ while cutting on excessive water use. These are cheap attachments you can place on sinks which will help you save water at home.
Skip Bottled Water
Buy Reusable Water Bottles. At the very least, consider ditching one-use plastic bottles for reusable water bottles. If you invest in insulated bottles, you can keep your beverages cooler or warmer for long periods of time. Of course this is ideal if you’re traveling a lot or commuting for a large part of the day; however, there are some steps you can take in your home as well to cut water bottle use.
Invest In Reverse Osmosis Water. Feel free to check out another one of our recent articles on Reverse Osmosis water to see why it’s ideal for your home! Essentially, Reverse Osmosis (RO) funnels water through a semipermeable membrane to clean the tap water that runs through your faucets. RO not only cleans your water, but it also purifies the taste and flavor of your water to provide consistent flavor for cooking, baking, and simply drinking. This makes it so that you can safely drink the water from your sink and be assured of its quality. As a result, you’ll see less of a need for bottled water as your filtered RO water will be more than enough for your home.
