WHAT IS SEWER JETTING?

SEWER JETTING AKA HYDRO JETTING

Hydro jetting (sometimes called sewer jetting) is an innovative method plumbers use to maintain the health of the plumbing system and to completely clear out the inside of pipes — even stubborn and hazardous main line clogs.

 

While plumbing snakes and chemical treatments can take care of the minor buildup, often it is just a temporary fix that does nothing to take care of more serious buildup and clogs further down in the line. In some cases, the chemical treatments can even harm your pipes!

MAIN SEWER LINE CLOG CAUSES

Your main sewer line is the artery that moves all of your home’s wastewater (from sinks, toilets, dishwashers, etc.) away from the house and into the sewer. Because the main sewer line is connected to literally every plumbing fixture in your home, you can understand why a clog in that line is such a big deal. Instead of just one sink backing up, all of them might backup at once. You might have a toilet that acts up or makes weird noises every time you run the dishwasher. Another symptom of a clogged main sewer line is if you have more than one slow drain.

In addition to collapsing pipes and tree roots encroaching on the line, a clog in your main sewer line can be caused by all of the usual clog suspects such as:

HOW DOES SEWER JETTING WORK?

Hydro jetting works through a process of indirect pressure cleaning. A hose pumps large amounts of water through a special nozzle with enough pressure to whisk away debris. With 4,000 psi of pressure, clogs do not stand much of a chance. And this method of cleaning is simply unmatched when it comes to the comprehensiveness and safeness of the process. Other tools exist that try to tackle the problem, but to keep your sewer line in the best shape possible, hydro jetting is the industry standard. In addition to clearing away blockages and buildup, hydro jetting can also smooth blisters that occur over time in certain types of pipes like cast iron, for instance.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CLEAN OUT YOUR SEWER LINE?

The question of how often to hydro jet your sewer line really depends on a number of factors including:

• The age and condition of your pipes

• How often they are used at your home or business

With typical use, homeowners are advised to get their sewer line cleaned professionally about once every 18-24 months. But a consultation with a qualified professional is the best way to determine if you should get your sewer line cleaned more frequently or if you can go longer in between those cleanings.
