FAUCET REPAIR FOR YOUR MESA HOME

SEP 29, 2015

A leaking faucet is enough to drive most homeowners up the wall. The average faucet is made up of various parts and gaskets, any of which could spring a leak over time. If you are facing this issue, there are several options.

Fix or replace your faucet?

If your faucet is old and you don’t really enjoy looking at it anymore, faucet repair might not be the ideal option. However, if you want to keep your faucet and believe a minor repair could solve your issue, you might as well fix it.

DIY or professional help?

Whether you decide to replace or repair your faucet, you’ll need to determine whether you want to try to take the job on yourself or call professional.

If you’ve got a good set of tools and little know-how when it comes to taking on home projects, you should be able to take care of the issue yourself. Make sure to take the proper first steps.

  1. Turn off the water supply to the sink.
  2. Put some tape around your wrench so you don’t damage or scratch the faucet.
  3. Pick a specific location to lay out all the parts.
  4. Keep some distilled white vinegar handy. This is great for cleaning crusty deposits from your faucet.

You will also have to determine what type of faucet you have. The most common are compression, cartridge, ball type and ceramic disk.

With compression faucets, the seat washers are a common source of leaks. Ball-type faucets have more parts than compression faucets, so finding the source of the leak can be a challenge.
