Caring for Your Heating and Cooling

Dec 04, 2014

Your HVAC system has a very important job to do, especially if you live in an area that experiences a wide range of temperature fluctuations on an annual basis. If you have ever had the unfortunate experience of being stuck in the middle of January with no heat or approaching August with no air conditioning, then you know firsthand how important your heating and cooling system is to your everyday comfort. To ensure that your system functions efficiently for as long as possible, here are some things you should do.

Schedule Regular Maintenance

If you want to avoid inconvenient breakdowns and malfunctions, schedule professionals to come check out your HVAC system on a regular basis. It is always best to have your system checked twice per year: once right before winter and once right before summer.

Keep Outdoor Fixture Clean

Periodically check your outdoor air conditioning fixture and make sure all leaves, twigs and other debris are removed from its surface. If this fixture becomes clogged, it can cause your air conditioning unit to fail and leave you feeling quite uncomfortable even in slightly warm weather.

Change Filters Regularly

The filters in your HVAC system can cause your entire system to slow down and work inefficiently if they are clogged with dirt and other debris. To ensure that you are keeping your energy costs low and experiencing the maximum benefit from your heating and cooling system, clean or change your filters at least once every 90 days, or as often as recommended by your system manual.

Keep Registers Open

When you close more than 20% of the registers around your home in order to limit air flow to certain areas, you put an incredible amount of strain on your HVAC system. Remove some of this strain by checking periodically to make sure you only have a few registers closed at a time.

Follow these tips, and your HVAC system should serve you faithfully for many more years. Call (602) 870-6840 today to speak with an expert at Donley Service Center about caring for heating and cooling.
